Electrical Equipment for Explosive Atmospheres - Repair and Overhaul
Also Known As:
AS/NZS 3800:2020 is a standard that provides technical instructions for the repair, overhaul, reclamation, and modification of electrical equipment designed for use in explosive atmospheres. It should be noted that this standard does not cover general maintenance activities unless they are directly associated with repair and overhaul. Additionally, it does not provide guidance on cable entry systems that may need replacement during re-installation.
AS/NZS 3800:2020 is not applicable to equipment with type of protection "m," "o," and "q." It assumes that good engineering practices are followed throughout the repair and overhaul process. Although the standard emphasizes electrical machines, it is not because they are more important than other explosion-protected equipment but rather because they are often significant repairable capital equipment with common construction aspects.
There is a national variation to the standard where the clause regarding the inapplicability to types of protection "m," "o," and "q" is deleted. Instead, it states that overhaul should not be carried out without manufacturer and certificate documentation for types of protection "i," "m," and "s." This variation aims to ensure that proper documentation is available for these specific types of protection during the overhaul process.
