Overhead Electrical Lines Exceeding AC 1 kV - General Requirements - Common Specifications
Also Known As:
BS EN 50341-1:2012 is a European standard that applies to new overhead electric lines with nominal system voltages exceeding AC 1 kV and with rated frequencies below 100 Hz. The standard also covers covered conductor overhead lines and overhead insulated cable systems with nominal system voltage exceeding AC 1 kV up to and including AC 45 kV. It provides general requirements for the design, construction, installation, and testing of overhead line components to ensure the line is suitable for its purpose and meets safety, operational, and environmental standards. The standard also includes considerations for optical ground wires and conductors.
This standard does not apply to overhead electric lines inside closed electrical areas or catenary systems of electrified railways unless required by another standard. It provides normative references, definitions, and symbols to aid in understanding the standard. The standard is structured into several clauses, starting with the basis of design, followed by general requirements, and specific requirements for different components of the overhead line. The standard also includes provisions for quality assurance during design, manufacturing, and construction.
