Standard EN SamplePortable and Stationary Electric Signs and Displays
Also Known As:
The CSA C22.2 No. 207:15 (R2020) standard is a standard issued by the Canadian Standards Association under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. This second edition supersedes the previous edition published in 1989.
The scope of this standard applies to electric signs and display equipment for indoor or outdoor use in nonhazardous locations. It specifies requirements for installation in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I on branch circuits with specific voltage limitations. For stationary signs, the voltage between conductors should not exceed 750 V, and lamp voltages should not exceed 15,000 V. For portable signs, the voltage between conductors should not exceed 125 V, and lamp voltages should not exceed 7,500 V. In certain cases, where lamp voltages are between 7,500 V and 15,000 V, specific conditions apply.
The standard covers various types of lighting sources including incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, high-voltage luminous discharge tubes (including neon tubes), high-intensity discharge lamps, and light-emitting diodes (LEDs). It also includes requirements for sectional signs and encompasses four clauses: general requirements for all electric signs, requirements for stationary signs, requirements for portable signs, and provisions for retrofit kits for sign conversion.
The standard explicitly states that it does not apply to luminaires, portable luminaires, Christmas tree and other decorative lighting outfits, or swimming pool luminaires and accessories, as these are covered by other CSA standards. The values provided in the standard are in SI (metric) units, with values in parentheses for informational purposes.
