Standard ENFR EN FRElectrical Test Methods for Electric Cables - Part 3: Test Methods for Partial Discharge Measurements on Lengths of Extruded Power Cables
Also Known As:
IEC 60885-3:2015 is a standard that provides test methods for measuring partial discharge (PD) on lengths of extruded power cables. It should be noted that this standard does not cover measurements on installed cable systems. Instead, it refers to IEC 60270, which offers techniques and considerations for PD measurements in general.
The second edition of this standard is a technical revision that supersedes the first edition published in 1988. It brings about some significant changes. Firstly, the previous definition of sensitivity as twice the background noise level has been replaced by a practical assessment based on the minimum level of detectable discharge. Secondly, the measurements of pulse heights on an oscilloscope have been replaced with measurements of PD magnitude in picocoulombs (pC). Lastly, the clauses have been rearranged to align with the general numbering scheme of IEC standards and to enhance practical use. The previous "Application guide" section has been removed as it is now recommended to obtain background information from the original references listed in the bibliography.
