Standard ENFR EN FRSpecifications for the re-use of sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) and its mixtures in electrical equipment
Also Known As:
IEC 60480:2019 is a standard that provides specifications for the re-use of sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) and its mixtures in electrical equipment. The standard focuses on the recovery and reclaiming of SF6and its mixtures after they have been used in electrical equipment, such as during maintenance or at the end of their life cycle.
The standard covers the criteria for re-use of SF6and its mixtures with nitrogen (N2) and carbon tetrafluoride (CF4), taking into account environmental concerns. It does not include procedures for recovering and reclaiming used SF6and its mixtures, as those are described in a separate standard.
IEC 60480:2019 includes several annexes that provide additional information, such as the methods of analysis for SF6and its mixtures, the by-products of SF6, the evaluation of potential health effects from these by-products, recommendations for cryogenic reclaiming of SF6, and general recommendations for reclaiming.
The standard does not cover the storage, transportation, and disposal of SF6and its mixtures, as those are addressed in a different standard. Procedures for determining SF6leakages are described in yet another standard.
This third edition of the standard cancels and replaces the previous edition from 2004. The current edition includes significant technical changes, such as the confirmation of specifications for SF6re-use, the inclusion of specifications for SF6mixtures (SF6/N2and SF6/CF4), and the repartition of annexes from other related standards.
