Converter Transformers - Part 1: Transformers for Industrial Applications
Also Known As:
IEC 61378-1:2011 is a standard that focuses on converter transformers used in industrial applications. It provides specifications, design guidelines, and testing procedures for transformers and reactors that are integrated within semiconductor converter plants. The standard applies to power converters of any power ratings and is applicable to various applications such as thyristor rectifiers for electrolysis, diode rectifiers for electrolysis, large drive thyristor rectifiers, scrap melting furnace thyristor rectifiers, and diode rectifiers for variable speed drive inverters.
The standard also covers the regulating unit used in applications like step-down regulating transformers or autotransformers. This edition of the standard includes several significant technical changes compared to the previous edition. Some of these changes include the introduction of winding connections with a phase displacement of 30°, allowing for transformers with multiple active parts in the same tank, a revised definition of reference power, considerations for current sharing and hot spot temperature in high current windings with different arrangements, and the inclusion of transductors used for DC voltage regulation together with diode rectifiers.
