Standard ENFR EN FRComposite String Insulator Units for Overhead Lines with a Nominal Voltage Greater than 1 000 V - Part 1: Standard Strength and End Fittings
Also Known As:
IEC 61466-1:2016 is a standard that applies to composite string insulator units used in overhead lines with a nominal voltage greater than 1,000 V and a frequency not exceeding 100 Hz. The standard is also applicable to similar insulators used in substations and electric traction lines. The purpose of this standard is to establish specified values for the mechanical characteristics of composite string insulator units and define the main dimensions of their couplings. By doing so, the standard allows for the assembly of insulators and fittings from different manufacturers, ensuring interchangeability with existing installations whenever possible.
This edition of the standard introduces significant technical changes compared to the previous edition. These changes include the addition of strength classes that reflect current Ultra High Voltage (UHV) practices, as well as the incorporation of Corrigendum 1:2008, which provides updated hole dimensions for Y fittings.
