Standard ENFR EN FRExplosive Atmospheres - Part 2: Equipment Protection by Pressurized Enclosure "p"
Also Known As:
IEC 60079-2:2014 is a standard that specifically addresses the construction and testing of electrical equipment with pressurized enclosures, classified as type "p", designed for use in explosive gas atmospheres or explosive dust atmospheres. It also includes requirements for pressurized enclosures that have a limited release of a flammable substance. This standard serves as a supplement and modification to the general requirements outlined in IEC 60079-0. In cases where there is a conflict between the requirements of this standard and those in IEC 60079-0, the requirements of IEC 60079-2:2014 take precedence.
It is important to note that the standard does not cover other types of pressurized enclosures such as those that release air with an oxygen content greater than normal, pressurized rooms or analyser houses, enclosures used with explosives or pyrotechnics, enclosures used with hybrid mixtures of gas/vapour and combustible dust, enclosures used with pyrophoric substances, or enclosures with an internal source that release combustible dust.
This sixth edition of the standard supersedes the previous fifth edition published in 2007, as well as the first edition of IEC 61241-4 published in 2001. It includes technical revisions and incorporates the content of the July 2015 corrigendum. Details regarding the changes between the sixth and fifth editions can be found in the foreword of the document.
