Live Working - Voltage Detectors - Part 1: Capacitive Type to be Used for Voltages Exceeding 1 kV a.c

IEC 61243-1:2003+A1:2009 is a standard that pertains to the use of capacitive-type voltage detectors for live working applications. Specifically, this standard applies to portable voltage detectors, whether they have built-in power sources or not, that are used on electrical systems with voltages exceeding 1 kV and frequencies of 50 Hz and/or 60 Hz. These voltage detectors can be used as a complete device with an integrated insulating element, or they can be used as a separate device that can be attached to an insulating stick.

The standard provides guidelines for the design and performance requirements of these voltage detectors. It covers aspects such as the sensitivity of the detectors, their response time, the indication methods used to alert the user of the presence of voltage, and the safety requirements for their operation. The standard also includes requirements for the testing and calibration of these voltage detectors.

It is worth noting that the standard does not cover insulating sticks as separate tools, as they fall outside its scope. The 2005 corrigendum has been incorporated into this consolidated version, which combines the second edition (2003) of the standard with its amendment 1 (2009). This consolidated version includes all the necessary information, making it unnecessary to order the amendment separately.
