Standard EN SampleIEEE Standard for the Repair and Rewinding of AC Electric Motors in the Petroleum, Chemical, and Process Industries
Also Known As: IEEE Std 1068-2015
The IEEE 1068-2015 standard is a document that provides general recommendations for the repair of AC electric motors. It is intended to be used and referenced by motor owners, repair facilities, and service providers.
The scope of this standard covers the repair, refurbishment, and rewinding of horizontal and vertical induction motors and synchronous motors. It applies to motors with voltages up to 15 kV and power ratings above 0.75 kW (1 hp). However, it does not cover specific requirements for explosion-proof, dust-ignition-proof, flameproof, or similar motors that have certifications issued by Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs), such as ABS, UL, FM, or CSA. It also excludes requirements for hermetic motors, hydrogen-cooled generators, submersible motors, and Class 1E nuclear service motors, as well as direct current (DC) motors.
The purpose of this standard is to provide guidelines and procedures for the repair of AC electric motors. It aims to ensure higher quality, cost-effective, and timely repairs for motor users and operators in the petroleum, chemical, and process industries. Additionally, it provides a framework for evaluating repairs and repair facilities.
