Standard ENIEEE Standards on Piezoelectric Crystals: Measurements of Piezoelectric Ceramics
Also Known As: ANSI C83.24-1962, IEEE Std 179-1961
The IEEE 179-1961 (R1971) standard focuses on the measurement of piezoelectric ceramics using the resonance and transmission methods. The standard acknowledges the previous IRE Standards on Piezoelectric Crystals from 1958 and procedures outlined in the Standards from 1957.
The transmission method is utilized to determine the frequency at minimum impedance (fm) of the sample, while the present Standard additionally specifies the measurement of the frequency at maximum impedance (fn). A simplified circuit, depicted in Figure 1, is recommended for the transmission network due to the wide range of parameters encountered in ceramics. The Standard emphasizes that the signal generator used should have an output impedance that is lower than the minimum impedance of the test specimen.
