SKU154238418 Published by International Organization for Standardization ISO Publication Date2018-12 Pages CountPages100

ISO 26262-5:2018 is a standard that focuses on the product development at the hardware level for safety-related electrical and electronic (E/E) systems in road vehicles, excluding mopeds. It does not cover unique E/E systems in special vehicles or systems already under development or in production before the publication of this document. The standard addresses possible hazards caused by malfunctioning behavior of safety-related E/E systems and provides a framework for integrating functional safety activities into the development process.

The standard covers various aspects of hardware development, including general topics, specification of hardware safety requirements, hardware design, evaluation of hardware architectural metrics, evaluation of safety goal violations due to random hardware failures, and hardware integration and verification. The requirements specified in the standard are applicable to both non-programmable and programmable elements such as ASIC, FPGA, and PLD.

ISO 26262-5:2018 does not address hazards related to electric shock, fire, smoke, heat, radiation, toxicity, flammability, reactivity, corrosion, release of energy, and similar hazards unless they are directly caused by malfunctioning behavior of safety-related E/E systems. It also does not address the nominal performance of E/E systems.
