Standard EN SampleRoad vehicles - Functional safety - Part 2: Management of functional safety
Also Known As:
ISO 26262-2:2011 is a standard that focuses on the management of functional safety in road vehicles. It specifically applies to safety-related systems that are installed in passenger cars with a maximum gross vehicle mass of up to 3,500 kg. This standard does not cover unique systems in special purpose vehicles or systems and components already in production or development prior to its publication.
The main goal of ISO 26262-2:2011 is to address potential hazards that may arise from the malfunctioning behavior of electrical and/or electronic (E/E) safety-related systems, including their interaction. It does not cover hazards related to electric shock, fire, smoke, heat, radiation, toxicity, flammability, corrosion, release of energy, and other similar hazards, unless directly caused by the malfunctioning of E/E safety-related systems.
Additionally, ISO 26262-2:2011 does not address the nominal performance of E/E systems, even if there are dedicated functional performance standards for specific systems such as active and passive safety systems or brake systems.
This standard consists of project-independent requirements for organizations involved in automotive applications (overall safety management) and project-specific requirements for managing safety throughout the concept phase, product development, and after release for production.
