JIS T 8206:2020 is a standard that establishes general requirements for the construction, testing, and performance of flammable gas detectors. The standard covers portable, transportable, and fixed equipment used for the detection and measurement of flammable gas or vapor concentrations in the air. The purpose of these detectors is to indicate the potential hazard of an explosion and, in some cases, initiate protective actions.

The standard applies to flammable gas detection equipment intended for use in commercial, industrial, and non-residential safety applications. It also includes diffusion equipment and aspirated equipment with integrated sampling systems. However, it does not cover external sampling systems, equipment used in mines susceptible to firedamp, laboratory or scientific equipment, or equipment used solely for process monitoring and control purposes. Open path (line of sight) detectors are only within the scope of the standard if they have very short optical paths.

It should be noted that the standard is specifically for the detection of flammable gas or vapor and does not apply to the detection of multiple gases. The equipment calibrated for specific gases may not accurately indicate other gases or vapors. The standard also provides additional information on the measurement range and units of measurement for flammable gas detectors.
