Standard EN SampleDegrees of Protection Provided by Enclosures (IP Code)
Also Known As:
ANSI/IEC 60529:2004 is a standard that defines the classification of degrees of protection provided by enclosures for electrical equipment. It applies specifically to equipment with a rated voltage not exceeding 72.5 kV. The purpose of this standard is to provide a system for describing the level of protection an enclosure offers against the ingress of foreign objects (such as dust and solid particles) and moisture (such as water and liquids).
The IP Code, which stands for International Protection Marking, is used to specify the degree of protection provided by an enclosure. The code consists of the letters "IP" followed by two digits. The first digit represents the level of protection against solid objects and the second digit represents the level of protection against moisture. Each digit ranges from 0 to 6, with higher numbers indicating a greater level of protection.
