The SAE AMS 5962A:2003 standard describes a nickel alloy that is resistant to both corrosion and heat. It is available in the form of round bars and wire, with a maximum diameter of 1½ inches (38 mm). The alloy composition includes 52.5% nickel, 19% chromium, 3.0% molybdenum, 5.1% columbium, 0.90% titanium, 0.50% aluminum, and 18% iron. This alloy can be produced through two methods: consumable electrode or vacuum induction melting at a temperature of 1775 °F (968 °C). After melting, the material undergoes a solution treatment and is then work-strengthened to enhance its mechanical properties. Additionally, it can be precipitation hardened for further strengthening. This standard provides specifications for the chemical composition, mechanical properties, heat treatment, and quality assurance requirements for this nickel alloy.
