Standard EN SampleHousehold and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-34: Particular Requirements for Motor-Compressors
Also Known As:
UL 60335-2-34:2017 is a standard that specifically focuses on the safety requirements for motor-compressors used in household and similar electrical appliances. It applies to both hermetic and semi-hermetic motor-compressors and covers their protection and control systems. The standard is applicable to motor-compressors that are tested separately under the most severe conditions anticipated during normal use, with rated voltages not exceeding 250 V for single-phase motor-compressors and 600 V for other motor-compressors.
The standard also includes provisions for multi-speed motor-compressors and variable capacity motor-compressors. It provides examples of appliances that may contain motor-compressors, such as refrigerators, air conditioners, heat pumps, dehumidifiers, commercial dispensing appliances, and factory-built assemblies for heat transfer applications.
While this standard does not replace requirements outlined in specific appliance standards, if the motor-compressors used comply with UL 60335-2-34:2017, some tests specified in the particular appliance standard may not be necessary. However, additional tests may be required if the motor-compressor control system is associated with the particular appliance control system.
It is important to note that UL 60335-2-34:2017 does not cover the use of appliances by unsupervised children or the intentional playing with appliances by young children. Additional requirements may be necessary for motor-compressors used in appliances in vehicles, on board ships, or in locations with special conditions, such as the presence of corrosive or explosive atmospheres.
