Standard EN SampleAttachment Plugs, Cord Connectors and Receptacles with Arcuate (Locking Type) Contacts
Also Known As:
UL 498D:2021 is a standard that covers attachment plugs, receptacles, cord connectors, and inlets with arcuate (locking-type) contacts. These devices are rated 20 or 30 A of the non-grounding type or 15, 50, or 60 A of grounding or non-grounding types. They are intended for connection to a branch circuit in accordance with the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70.
It is important to note that this standard does not cover plugs, socket outlets (receptacles), cord connectors, and inlets with arcuate contacts (locking-type configurations) rated 20 and 30 A grounding type. These devices are covered by the Standard for Plugs, Socket-Outlets and Couplers with Arcuate (Locking Type) Contacts, UL 498F.
The UL 498D standard does not apply to devices rated above 200 A or for more than 600 V.
Additionally, UL 498D supplements other standards, including UL 498 for straight-blade attachment plugs and receptacles, UL 498E for attachment plugs, receptacles, cord connectors, and inlets with arcuate contacts (locking-type configurations) - Enclosure Types for Environmental Protection, UL 498M for inlets with arcuate contacts (locking-type configurations) - Marine Shore Power Inlets, UL 817 for devices produced integrally with flexible cord or cable, UL 498A for current taps and adapters not provided with wiring terminals for flexible cord, UL 496 for devices employing male or female screwshells, UL 1682 for devices solely intended for direct connection to the branch circuit with pin and sleeve contacts, UL 1977 for single and multipole connectors for data, signal, control, and power applications, UL 1203 for devices intended for hazardous locations, UL 60950-1 and UL 1863 for devices intended for telecommunications networks, UL 943 for devices incorporating ground-fault circuit interruption circuitry, UL 1449 for surge protective devices, UL 1283 for electromagnetic interference filters, UL 1363 for relocatable power taps, and UL 1691 for single pole locking-type separable connectors.
