Motor Control Centers
Also Known As:
The UL 845:2021 standard specifies the requirements for motor control centers used in accordance with the U.S. National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, CSA C22.1, Canadian Electrical Code, Part 1, and the Mexican Electrical Installations (Utility), NOM-001-SEDE.
The standard covers motor control centers intended for circuits with available short-circuit currents not exceeding 200,000 A rms symmetrical or 200,000 A dc. It applies to both single-phase and three-phase motor control centers operating at frequencies of 50 and 60 Hz, as well as dc motor control centers. The rated voltage for these motor control centers should not exceed 1000 V ac or dc.
Additionally, the standard includes specific requirements for fire pump controllers, which can be found in Annex C, item 11 of the standard.
