The UL 1990:2017 standard covers the requirements for nonmetallic underground conduit with conductors. These products consist of a preassembled arrangement of conductors or cables enclosed within a coilable, smooth-wall, continuous length conduit with a circular cross-section. The conduit is made of Schedule-40, Schedule-80, EPEC-A, or EPEC-B High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) in trade sizes ranging from 1/2 (16) to 4 (103).
The intended use for this product is for installation in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70). It can be used for aboveground applications when encased in at least 2 inches (51 mm) of concrete, as well as for underground installations through direct burial or encasement in concrete. The standard also provides metric trade designators for conduit sizes and designations for different conduit types based on specific outside diameters and wall thicknesses.
