Standard for Electric Household Cooking and Food Serving Appliances
Also Known As:
The UL 1026:2021 standard is specifically designed for electric cooking and food serving appliances used in households. It covers appliances rated at 250 V or lower and is applicable to appliances used in ordinary locations, including both casual and permanent outdoor use. This standard is aligned with the National Electrical Code (NEC), specifically NFPA 70.
However, there are certain exceptions and exclusions stated in the standard. Household electric ranges, electrode type appliances, skillets, frying type appliances, fondues, woks, tempuras, corn poppers, coffee makers, brewing type appliances, commercial cooking appliances, and microwave cooking appliances are not covered under this standard. These appliances may have separate requirements specified for their safety.
The standard highlights that specific requirements applicable to a particular type of equipment are identified by explicit references to that equipment type (e.g., toaster or rotisserie). However, if the term "appliance" is used without a specific reference, it is understood that the requirement applies to all types of equipment covered by the standard.
Additionally, slow cookers intended for outdoor use are not covered by the UL 1026:2021 standard.
