Standard EN SampleStandard for Electric Utility Meters
Also Known As:
UL 2735:2014 is a standard that addresses the electrical safety requirements for electric utility (revenue) meters. These meters are used for measuring, monitoring, recording, transmitting, or receiving electrical energy generation or consumption information. The standard applies to meters rated up to 600 V.
The meters covered by this standard may have one or two-way communication capabilities, using carrier signals, telephone, cable, wireless communication, or other methods. They may also provide signals for controlling electrical loads or power generation equipment in response to signals received from the utility or local communication networks.
This standard includes both socket mounted plug-in (Type S) utility meters and non-socket mounted, bottom connected (Type A) utility meters. They are intended for installation in ordinary (non-classified) locations and may or may not be under the exclusive control of the serving utility. The standard also covers revenue meters that are not socket mounted or bottom connected, including those intended for factory installation as components within the enclosure of complete equipment.
It's important to note that this standard does not cover equipment intended for testing or making measurements for analysis in a laboratory or industrial setting. UL 2735:2014 focuses specifically on the electrical safety requirements for electric utility meters used in everyday installations.
