Standard EN SampleSwitches for Appliances - Part 2-5: Particular Requirements for Change-Over Selectors
Also Known As:
UL 61058-2-5:2020 sets the standard for change-over selectors used in appliances. These selectors are designed to be operated manually by a person, either through an actuating member or a sensing unit. The standard covers both mechanical and electronic change-over selectors, with a focus on their use in household or similar purposes.
The standard specifies that the rated voltage of the appliances should not exceed 480 V, and the rated current should not exceed 63 A. It also covers change-over selectors that incorporate additional control functions governed by the switch function. Additionally, it addresses the indirect actuation of the switch, such as through remote control or a part of an appliance or equipment.
The standard provides several notes for clarification. Electronic change-over selectors can be combined with mechanical ones to provide full disconnection or micro-disconnection. However, electronic change-over selectors without a mechanical switch in the supply circuit only offer electronic disconnection, meaning the circuit on the load side is always considered live. Additional requirements may apply for change-over selectors used in tropical climates. It is also noted that appliance standards may contain additional or alternative requirements for change-over selectors.
