Outline EN SampleCustom-Built Kiosks
Also Known As: UL SUBJECT 2361
UL 2361:2011 standard outlines the requirements for self-contained kiosks used for providing information, selling tickets, facilitating electronic point-of-sale transactions, customer self-checkout, and other business applications. These requirements apply to kiosks intended for use indoors, unless specifically designated by the manufacturer for outdoor use or use in a protective location.
The standard covers kiosks operating at a voltage of 240 volts or less, meant for installation in accordance with the National Electrical Code. The ambient temperature of the installation location should not exceed 25°C (77°F), unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer. However, it is important to note that this standard does not apply directly to coin and currency-related devices, but can be used as a supplement to the UL 756 standard for such devices.
Antitheft protection features are not covered by these requirements, and accounting machines, cash registers, computers, and similar devices are excluded. However, custom-built kiosks may contain components or machines of these types. The standard also distinguishes between cord-connected kiosks (Configuration I) and open-type kiosks (Configuration IV), which are installed as part of the premises building.
If a product deviates from the specific requirements of this standard or introduces new features or components that pose risks of fire, electric shock, or injury, additional evaluations and requirements may need to be applied to ensure safety. Any conflicts or deviations are to be addressed through proposed revisions and adherence to the methods employed for the development and implementation of the standard.
