The UL 1598C:2017 standard focuses on light-emitting diode (LED) retrofit luminaire conversion kits. These kits are designed to replace existing light sources and systems, such as incandescent, fluorescent, induction, and high-intensity discharge (HID) light sources. The standard applies to retrofit kits that are used in luminaires that already comply with the requirements set forth in UL 1598.

The standard covers both specific luminaire models or part numbers identified in the installation kit instructions, as well as generic type luminaires that meet specific criteria outlined in the installation kit instructions. It supplements the luminaire requirements found in UL 1598 and applies to various components of the retrofit kits, including LED lamps and arrays, LED control modules, drivers, power supplies, wiring, lampholders, brackets, wire connectors, reflectors, diffusers, and other mechanical, electrical, or optical devices associated with the retrofitting process.

However, it's important to note that the standard does not cover luminaire reflector kits or luminaire conversion lamps. It also excludes various types of retrofit luminaire conversion kits, such as those used for amateur movie lights, aquarium lights, decorative lighting strings, electric signs, exit signs, low voltage landscape lighting, luminaires for hazardous locations, and many others.
