Printed Wiring Boards
Also Known As:
The UL 796:2021 standard establishes requirements for rigid printed wiring boards and flexible printed wiring boards used as components in devices or appliances. It is important to note that compliance with these requirements does not automatically imply that the product is suitable for use as a component in an end product and further investigation may be necessary.
In particular, the standard covers flexible printed wiring boards that consist of conductors attached to an insulating base film, with or without a cover-lay film, and with midboard connections. However, it does not encompass flexible printed wiring boards constructed with laminated-film where the conductors are parallel and fully covered by the base film, only with point-to-point end connections.
Additionally, the standard states that flexible material constructions, as well as multilayer rigid flex composite interconnect constructions with or without stiffener and adhesive materials, should be evaluated in accordance with the Standard for Flexible Materials Interconnect Constructions (UL 796F).
