UL 844:2021 is a standard that specifies the requirements for luminaires used in hazardous (classified) locations. These locations include Class I, Divisions 1 and 2, Groups A, B, C, and D; Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, and G; Class II, Division 2, Groups F and G; and Class III, Divisions 1 and 2, as defined by the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70.
The standard also covers luminaires for use in Class I, Zones 1 and 2, Groups IIA, IIB, IIB plus Hydrogen, and IIC; as well as Zone 20, 21, and 22 hazardous locations, in accordance with the NEC.
These luminaires are subject to specific atmospheric conditions, including a minimum ambient temperature of -60°C (-58°F), an oxygen concentration not exceeding 21 percent by volume, and a nominal barometric pressure of one atmosphere.
