UL 1602:2017 PDF Download

The UL 1602:2017 standard is applicable to gasoline-engine-powered edgers and edger-trimmers that utilize rigid cutting members. These devices can either be walk-behind, ground-supported edgers or hand-supported, portable edgers with at least one ground-support. The maximum allowable diameter of the rigid cutting member for these devices is 12 inches (305 mm).

However, this standard does not cover gasoline-powered edgers and edger-trimmers that utilize cutting means with a maximum tip-speed exceeding 12,000 surface ft/min (3660 surface m/min). Additionally, edgers and edger-trimmers equipped with nonmetallic flexible lines as cutting means are not covered by this standard.

It is important to note that the UL 1602:2017 standard does not include accessories or attachments designed for cutting materials other than earth and grass.
