Outline EN SampleOutline for Connectors and Service Plugs for Use with on-Board Electrical Vehicle (EV) Charging Systems
Also Known As: UL SUBJECT 2734
The UL 2734:2015 standard specifies the requirements for connectors and service plugs used in on-board EV charging systems.
The standard covers connectors that are designed to interconnect communication and power circuit conductors within an on-board vehicle charging system. These connectors have a voltage rating of up to 2000 volts AC or DC and are not intended for connection or disconnection under load conditions.
It also covers on-board EV service plugs, which are not meant to be operated under load. These service plugs have a maximum current rating of 800 amperes and a voltage rating of 2000 volts AC or DC. The pilot contacts incorporated in a service plug are intended for use in the control circuit of magnetic motor controllers and similar devices, with a continuous current rating of 10 amperes or less and a maximum voltage of 600 volts AC or DC.
The connectors and service plugs covered by this standard are intended for factory assembly to copper or copper alloy conductors and are mounted internally within the vehicle. They are not accessible to the operator and should not be subjected to mechanical abuse.
However, it's important to note that this standard does not cover certain types of plugs, receptacles, and connectors that are covered by other UL standards. These include plugs, receptacles, and couplers for electric vehicles covered by UL 2251, plugs, receptacles, and cable connectors of the pin and sleeve type covered by UL 1682, and devices molded integrally with flexible cord or cable covered by UL 817, among others.
