The UL 814:2020 standard specifies the requirements for single-conductor gas-tube-sign cables used in gas-tube systems for signs, outline lighting, and interior lighting. These cables have a temperature rating between 105°C and 250°C (221°F and 482°F) and voltage ratings of 5000 volts, 10000 volts, or 15000 volts.

The standard covers cables with AWG sizes ranging from 18 to 10. It ensures that these cables meet the safety and performance requirements set forth by the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the Standard for Electrical Signs, UL 48. Additionally, the UL 814 standard highlights that assemblies including these cables, intended for use as components of gas-tube signs, must also comply with the requirements specified in the Standard for Electric-Sign Components, UL 879.
