AS/NZS 3001:2008 is a standard that outlines the requirements for electrical installations in transportable structures and vehicles. It applies to structures and vehicles that are intended to be connected to low-voltage AC supply systems. Transportable structures include both vehicles and structures with or without wheels that can be easily moved from one location to another.

This standard includes additional requirements for the internal electrical wiring of transportable structures and for electrical installations that provide a low-voltage supply through a socket-outlet and plug arrangement. These installations are intended for use by unskilled individuals and are commonly found in caravan parks and camping areas with powered sites. The standard specifically excludes fairgrounds and temporary camping sites, which are governed by AS/NZS 3002, and construction and demolition sites, which are governed by AS/NZS 3012.

The scope of this standard covers various types of transportable structures, including vehicles offering accommodation such as caravans, camper vans, and motor homes. It also includes vehicles like food vending vans, mobile classrooms, and television outside broadcast vans. Additionally, transportable structures like relocatable homes, tents for accommodation, and temporary site facilities on construction and demolition sites are covered. Display units, mobile medical connectable installations, and signage are also included, subject to specific requirements.

However, there are exclusions to the standard. It does not apply to transportable structures with permanently connected electricity supply that are not intended to be relocated. These structures are subject to AS/NZS 3000. Vehicles with fixed wiring that are used for amusement rides or concessions are also exempt and are governed by AS 3533. Transportable structures without fixed wiring that provide entertainment, such as circus and carnival tents, are subject to AS/NZS 3002. Pleasure craft, as defined in AS/NZS 3004.2, are also outside the scope of this standard.
