Standard ENStandard Specification for Solid Wall High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Conduit Based on Controlled Outside Diameter (OD)
Also Known As:
The ASTM F2160-16 standard specifies the requirements for solid wall high-density polyethylene (HDPE) conduit used in non-pressure applications. This includes the protection of communication, CATV, or power wires and cables. The conduit can be manufactured with or without internal or external ribs and must be OD (outer diameter) controlled. The sizing of the conduit follows the Iron Pipe Size (IPS) standard.
The HDPE conduit must meet certain material, dimensional, workmanship, and performance requirements outlined in the standard. The internal or external surface of the conduit may contain a coextruded layer, as long as the finished conduit meets the specified product requirements.
The standard also covers various types of HDPE conduit, such as those with OD or ID (inner diameter) control, in different dimensions such as SDR (Standard Dimension Ratio) 9, 11, and 13.5, DR (Dimension Ratio) 15.5, Schedule 40, Schedule 80, and "True-sized" and SIDR (Standard Inside Dimension Ratio) dimensions.
To ensure the quality of the HDPE conduit, it must undergo tests for elongation, impact resistance, and ovality.
