Switches for appliances - Part 2-1: Particular requirements for cord switches
Also Known As:
IEC 61058-2-1:2018 is a standard that sets out the specific requirements for cord switches used in appliances. These switches are intended to be operated by hand, foot, or other human activity to control and operate electrical appliances and similar equipment. The standard applies to switches with a rated voltage of up to 250 volts and a rated current of up to 16 amps.
This third edition of the standard is a technical revision and replaces the previous edition published in 2010. It includes significant technical changes in terms of its overall formatting to align with other standards such as IEC 61058-1, IEC 61058-1-1, IEC 61058-1-2, and the heating tests.
The purpose of IEC 61058-2-1:2018 is to ensure that cord switches used in appliances meet specific safety requirements. The standard helps to ensure that these switches are reliable, durable, and operate within acceptable limits of voltage and current.
