Switches for appliances - Part 2-1: Particular Requirements for Cord Switches
Also Known As:
IEC 61058-2-1:2010 is a standard that sets out the particular requirements for cord switches used in electrical appliances. These switches are designed to be operated by hand, foot or other human activity. The standard applies to switches with a rated voltage of up to 250 V and a rated current of up to 16 A, commonly used in household or similar purposes.
The second edition of this standard replaces the previous edition from 1992 and its amendment. It introduces several changes, including updates to the scope and definitions, increased protection against electric shock, provisions for earthing, improved construction requirements to ensure safety, measures to mitigate fire hazards, and specifications for abnormal operation and fault conditions for electronic switches. The standard also includes requirements for electronic switch components and considerations for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
It is important to note that this standard should be used in conjunction with another related standard, IEC 61058-1:2000. Collectively, these standards provide a comprehensive framework for the design, testing, and use of switches for appliances, ensuring they meet the necessary safety and performance requirements.
