Plugs, Socket-Outlets, Vehicle Connectors and Vehicle Inlets - Conductive Charging of Electric Vehicles - Part 1: General Requirements
Also Known As:
The IEC 62196-1:2022 standard specifies the general requirements for plugs, socket-outlets, vehicle connectors, and vehicle inlets used in the conductive charging of electric vehicles. It applies to accessories such as EV plugs and socket-outlets, as well as cable assemblies. The standard sets limits for the rated operating voltage and current, with a maximum of 690 V AC or 1,500 V DC and 250 A or 800 A respectively.
This fourth edition of the standard replaces the previous edition from 2014 and introduces several technical revisions. Notable changes include the removal of references to universal AC and DC interfaces, additional requirements for contact materials and plating, modifications to the temperature rise test with more points of measurement, and new tests to address thermal stresses, mechanical wear, abuse, and exposure to contaminants. Furthermore, information and requirements related to DC charging have been relocated to a separate standard, IEC 62196-3.
