Plugs, Socket-outlets, Vehicle Connectors and Vehicle Inlets - Conductive Charging of Electric Vehicles - Part 1: General Requirements
Also Known As:
IEC 62196-1:2011 is a standard that specifies the general requirements for plugs, socket-outlets, vehicle connectors, and vehicle inlets used in conductive charging systems for electric vehicles (EVs). It applies to accessories with a rated operating voltage not exceeding 690 V a.c. 50 Hz - 60 Hz or 1,500 V d.c., and a rated current not exceeding 250 A for a.c. and 400 A for d.c. This standard is a revised edition that replaces the previous edition published in 2003.
The main changes in this edition include an increase in the d.c. voltage for accessories, allowing accessories to be used with vehicles complying with specific requirements, minor changes to definitions, additional voltage and current ratings, removal of markings to identify generic types of vehicle inlets and connectors, inclusion of a "high power d.c." category of accessories, modification of the description of "universal" and "basic" interfaces, simplification of marking requirements, additional requirements for accessories with shutters, division of a clause to create specific requirements for inlets, plugs, and socket-outlets, and the inclusion of a clause for EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) requirements.
