The IEC 61058-2-5:2018 standard is specifically focused on change-over selectors, whether they are mechanical or electronic, that are used in appliances. These selectors are designed to be operated by hand, foot, or other human activity in order to control or operate electrical appliances and other equipment for household or similar purposes. The standard applies to change-over selectors with a rated voltage that does not exceed 480 V and a rated current that does not exceed 63 A.

This third edition of the standard replaces and cancels the second edition that was published in 2010. It is considered a technical revision, and it includes significant technical changes compared to the previous edition. Some of these changes include updated references due to the new structure of IEC 61058-1, as well as changes related to conducting the heating test that align with corresponding changes in IEC 61058-1.
