Standard ENFR EN FRExplosive atmospheres - Part 6: Equipment protection by liquid immersion "o"
Also Known As:
IEC 60079-6:2015 standard specifies the requirements for the design, construction, testing, and marking of Ex Equipment and Ex Components with type of protection liquid immersion "o" intended for use in explosive gas atmospheres. This standard distinguishes between two levels of protection: "ob" and "oc". Level of protection "ob" is applicable for rated voltages not exceeding 11 kV, while level of protection "oc" is applicable for rated voltages not exceeding 15 kV.
This standard is applicable to equipment and components that are immersed in a protective liquid to prevent the ignition of explosive atmospheres. It supplements and modifies the general requirements of IEC 60079-0. In case of conflicting requirements, the requirements of IEC 60079-6:2015 take precedence.
The fourth edition of the standard, published in 2015, represents a major technical revision. The requirements for oil immersion "o" have been redefined as liquid immersion, levels of protection "ob" and "oc." Additionally, new requirements have been introduced to ensure the protection of sparking contacts, and for the characteristics of the protective liquid used.
