Reciprocating internal combustion engine driven alternating current generating sets - Part 1: Application, ratings and performance
Also Known As:
ISO 8528-1:2018 is a standard that provides definitions and guidelines for the application, ratings, and performance of generating sets powered by reciprocating internal combustion engines. These generating sets consist of an engine, an alternating current generator, and any additional controlgear, switchgear, and auxiliary equipment. The standard applies to generating sets used in both land and marine applications, excluding those used on aircraft or for land vehicles and locomotives.
The standard recognizes that certain applications may have specific requirements, such as essential hospital supplies or high-rise buildings. In such cases, supplementary requirements may be necessary, and ISO 8528-1:2018 can serve as a basis for establishing these additional requirements. The standard can also be used as a reference for establishing requirements for generating sets powered by other types of reciprocating prime movers, such as sewage-gas engines or steam engines.
Generating sets that comply with the provisions of ISO 8528-1:2018 are used for continuous, peak-load, and standby power generation. The classifications provided by the standard are meant to facilitate understanding and communication between the manufacturer and the customer.
