Standard EN SampleReciprocating Internal Combustion Engine Driven Alternating Current Generating Sets - Part 1: Application, Ratings and Performance
Also Known As:
ISO 8528-1:2005 is a standard that provides classifications for the application, ratings, and performance of generating sets that consist of a Reciprocating Internal Combustion (RIC) engine, Alternating Current (a.c.) generator, and associated equipment. This standard applies to a.c. generating sets driven by RIC engines used in land and marine applications, but excludes those used in aircraft, land vehicles, and locomotives.
The standard allows for supplementary requirements for specific applications such as essential hospital supplies or high-rise buildings. ISO 8528-1:2005 serves as the basis for establishing these additional requirements. It also serves as a reference for reciprocating-type prime movers like sewage-gas engines and steam engines.
Generating sets that meet the requirements of ISO 8528-1:2005 are commonly used for continuous, peak-load, and standby power applications. The classifications specified in this standard aim to improve communication and understanding between manufacturers and customers in terms of the capabilities and performance of the generating sets.
