Approval and Test Specification - General Requirements for Electrical Equipment
Also Known As:
AS/NZS 3100:2022 is a standard that outlines the general requirements and safety guidelines for electrical equipment used in buildings, structures, and premises. It does not apply to appliances covered by AS/NZS 60335.1 unless specifically referenced in an approved test specification. The standard covers various classes and types of equipment, including fittings, accessories, appliances, and apparatus.
The main objective of AS/NZS 3100:2022 is to ensure the safety of electrical equipment and protect against electric shock. It provides guidelines for the design and testing of equipment, including the principles and application of double insulation, which provides an extra layer of protection against electrical hazards.
Before delving into the main body of the standard, users are encouraged to review Annex D, which contains additional information on design and testing of electrical equipment. The 2022 edition of AS/NZS 3100 will replace the previous edition, effective from 24th June 2022.
